Benefit
A person applying lip colour

What it is

Castor oil is pressed from castor beans and is unusually thick for a plant oil, because it is made mostly of ricinoleic acid. It clings to the surface and reflects light, which is why it is the base of most lip glosses and balms.

It also holds pigment evenly, so a tinted balm goes on without streaks.

How we use it

At 15% in Tinted Lip Balm, with 20% shea butter.

How to use

Apply to lips as often as you like.

Pairs well with

Shea butter and iron oxides in the same balm.

Cautions

Rarely, castor oil can cause a reaction on the lips. Stop using it if they become sore or swollen.
