What it is

Shea butter is the fat pressed from the nut of the shea tree. It is solid at room temperature and melts at skin temperature, which gives creams and balms their cushioned feel.

It is both an emollient and an occlusive: it softens the surface and leaves a light layer that slows water loss. Ours is refined, so it has no scent.

How we use it

At 8% in Rich Cream and 20% in Tinted Lip Balm.

How to use

As the last step of a routine, or whenever skin or lips feel dry.

Pairs well with

Humectants underneath, such as glycerin, and ceramides in the same cream.

Cautions

Shea is a tree nut. Reactions are rare, but check with your doctor if you have a nut allergy. It can feel heavy on oily skin.
