Castor oil
A thick, glossy plant oil. It gives lip balm its shine and helps it stay put.

Ceramide NP
One of the lipids that make up the skin barrier. Added to creams to top up what dry skin is short of.

Coco-glucoside
A mild cleansing agent made from coconut oil and sugar. It lifts oil and dirt without a tight, squeaky finish.

Ferulic acid
A plant antioxidant found in bran and seeds. In our vitamin C serum it is there to keep the formula stable.

Glycerin
A humectant: it attracts water and holds it in the upper layers of skin. Plain, well studied and in most of our formulas.

Lactic acid
An alpha hydroxy acid that loosens dull surface cells. Milder than glycolic acid, and a humectant as well.

A larger, slower alpha hydroxy acid, originally derived from bitter almonds. Used alongside lactic acid.

An extract of oat kernels, long used on dry and easily irritated skin.

A rich plant butter pressed from shea nuts. Softens skin and slows water loss.

A light plant oil rich in linoleic acid. The base of our oil cleanser, where it dissolves sunscreen and make-up.

How to read a percentage
The percentage is the weight of an ingredient as a share of the finished formula. Compare it only with the usual range for that same ingredient: 5% of one active says nothing about 0.1% of another.
